The Greatest Mystery
It is a mystery of ages past
And ages yet to come
How God designed this universe
Created by His Son
But why did the Word of life
Become the Lamb
Who took away my sin
So that I may be forgiven
When I am crucified with Him
It is a mystery why God would die
To save a wretch like me
Why Jesus Christ was crucified
So others could go free
But why did He chose to pay
The wages of sin
To which I now lay claim
And to give His life so willingly
So that I could live again
It must have been love
Unlike no other love
This world has ever known
It must have been love
That led the great I AM
To suffer all alone
But what kind of love is this
That gave His all
To set His people free
Why Jesus died so we could live
Is the greatest mystery
It is a mystery, why God would send
His only Son of man
Ordained to suffer on that cross
Before the world began
Why was He born to bear
My guilt and shame
Upon that bloody tree
Why Jesus died so I could live
Is the greatest mystery
It is a mystery, how God above
Could love someone like me
How the Father, Son, and holy Ghost
One Spirit in all three
How could they look beyond my filthy rags
And see all I could be
Through the righteousness of Jesus Christ
It is a mystery to me
It must have been love
Above and beyond all love
This world has ever known
It must have been love
That led the Prince of peace
To leave His Father's throne
But what kind of love is this
That gave His life, for all humanity
Why Jesus died, so we could live
Is the greatest mystery
It must have been love
Unlike no other love
This world has ever known
It must have been love
That led the great I AM
To suffer all alone
But what kind of love is this
That gave His all, to set His people free
Why Jesus died, so we could live
Is the greatest mystery
Why Jesus died, so we could live
Is the greatest mystery
