This Land They Call Labrador
I have walked on the sand
In this land they call Labrador
I've charted the claim block of the VBNC
And I've seen northern gales
As they battered the shore
I hope the coast guard makes charts
Of the Labrador sea
I have travelled this land
With the help of Air Labrador
From Goose Bay to Cartwright
From Postville to Nain
From Davis to Hopedale
Makkovik and Rigolet
Then on to Wabush
And it's back home again
I've seen the Fraser River canyon
And I've seen the Mealy mountains
I've seen beauty in Emish
And the shores of Sango Bay
It's hard to imagine this place full of dust
But the nickle is needed
So the iron won't rust
I have been to the land
Where the caribou roam
I've watched Minke whales
From a rock by the shore
Where the bear and the wolf
And the otter call home
I will always remember
This wild Labrador
I have made lots of friends
In this land they call Labrador
The Webbs and the Dickers
And the Andersens too
The Michels and Penashues
The Whites and Ashinis
To the Karpiks and Flowers
This song is for you
I've seen the Fraser River canyon
And I've seen the Mealy mountains
I've seen beauty in Emish
And the shores of Sango Bay
It's hard to imagine this place full of dust
But the nickle is needed
So the iron won't rust
Here's to Lorraine and Lesley
Angie and Sharron
Josee and Brian
And Charley and Sam
And last but not least
Here's to Robbie and Peter
Farewell and nakummek
Until we meet again
Here's a toast to the people
Who came here before us
To future generations
What will we leave
For what good is our gold
Our money won't save us
If we poison the air
And the land and the sea
I've seen the Fraser River canyon
And I've seen the Mealy mountains
I've seen beauty in Emish
And the shores of Sango Bay
It's hard to imagine this place full of dust
But the nickle is needed
So the iron won't rust
It's hard to imagine this place full of dust
But the nickle is needed
So the iron won't rust
Yes, the nickle is needed
So the iron won't rust
